The intent for Geography in autumn 1 is to explore our local area, identifying where Worcestershire and Malvern are on a map of the UK (as well as identifying the capital cities and accurately drawing the countries borders). We then used the 8 compass points to identify the counties that surround Worcestershire and to identify towns and cities that surround Malvern.
We took our studies to the hills by looking at how the hills were formed and discussed plate tectonics to see how this has happened not only in Malvern but around the world. This led us into identifying other hill and mountain areas in the UK using an atlas. We took our map reading from the atlas to OS maps and finished our Geography topic by finding 6 figure grid references and identifying parts of our local area using these grid references.
