Curriculum Class Newsletters:

Scientific drawing observations

In our Science lessons, we have been observing animals and plants in their natural habitats. This week we took inspiration from Charles Darwin and Levon Bliss to draw scaled pictures of insects. Once we had drawn the insect in detail, we then added a splash of watercolour to bring the picture to life!

Sports Week 2019

Local habitat hunting

In this weeks Science lesson, we have been using the school grounds to explore what animals and plants live in our local habitat. We found all sorts of different creatures lurking in the bushes and even found some mysterious paw prints along one of the paths. We recorded our observations as we investigated and used magnifying classes to have a closer look at the creatures without disturbing them.

Seeds of life church visit

This week the Sycamore class children have been out and about visiting the seeds of life workshop at the Church of Ascension in Malvern. They were learning about different Christian symbols in a variety of ways. We played bingo, made stars, designed wooden doves and created stained glass crosses. It was a lovely day out and the children had a great time learning more about Christianity!

Sycamore children have been using textile materials to stitch their very own woodland animals. The results are looking amazing!

Miss Drew shared some mysterious emails that she had been sent. They had come from some people called the 'Minpins'. They needed our help and had sent five strange messages with different bits of information about their lives. In small groups we read through the information and made inferences about what they might want. We investigated each email and uncovered information about what they needed help with, where they live and who they are. We managed to uncover a lot about these strange messages and will continue to investigate the Minpins throughout our English lessons.

Our next topic book is the ‘Minpins’ by the wonderful Roald Dahl.

For the last half term, we have been learning about electricity and how to build circuits. This week we have been putting our knowledge to the test and combining this with some DT. We have designed, made and evaluated our own creations. Our games used electricity in different ways. Some of us made ring toss games, others made basketball hoops and others made question quiz style games. Well done Sycamore you worked hard and we had a blast playing each other’s games!

Welcome to Autumn 2

Children in Sycamore class have been busy putting their DT and art skills to the test by designing and making their own WW1 trench. We had to use our measuring, cutting and constructing skills – the children are proud of the trenches they made!

On Wednesday 21st November, We celebrated and explored the story behind Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Light.

Sycamore class designed and made their own rangoli patterns and took part in an exciting Bollywood style dance workshop.

Overall, we had a brilliant day celebrating - Happy Diwali!

On 15th November, children in Sycamore class created different pieces of art for Remembrance Day. Children used a variety of different art skills and techniques to create different poppy designs. Children also took part in a WW1 poetry workshop, which they thoroughly enjoyed.
