Due to COVID and identified gaps in the children's scientific learning Oak class focused on rocks (geology) throughout the second half of the autumn term.
During this time we identified the different types of rocks (igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary) and discovered how they are inter-changeable in the rock cycle. We used starbursts to demonstrate the effects of heat, cooling, pressure and other variables may have on rocks.
We also spent time investigating different properties of rocks as well as identifying rocks and minerals around us. This topic finished with an investigation into soil and how air is displaced by water in soil.
