Every Friday, Oak class have taken the trip over to The Elms school in Colwall to have swimming lessons in their pool.
The children have been split into ability groups. Confident swimmers with Miss Gibbs to practice a variety of strokes and develop more specialist swimming skills. Children that have had some water experience but aren't able to complete a full 25m have been with Chris the swimming instructor from The Elms, and children with low confidence have been in the pool with Mr Swain working on self rescue techniques and developing confidence to swim further and further.
The children took to the playground after half term to develop their team sports and games skills with hockey. The children learnt the correct way to hold a hockey stick whilst keeping control of a hockey ball. This led into dribbling with the ball and learning to pass and receive the hockey ball accurately. We then used our hockey skills to develop attack and defensive tactics and played games were the children would have to switch between attacking and defensive roles.
