Over the first half term children will be looking at the following areas for Mathematics in Oak Class:
Place Value
Addition and Subtraction
Multiplication and Division
Statistics
Place Value
In Place value the children will recap knowledge from year 5, reminding themselves of previously taught objectives.
They will then work with numbers that reach the tens of millions, compare and order numbers and build on confidence of rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 accurately.
Addition and Subtraction
Children will continue to build on the application of the column method to add and subtract numbers with more than 4 digits. They will be able to exchange more than once across these numbers and will use the inverse operations to check their work.
Multiplication and Division
Children will be confident using the column method to multiply by 1 digit and to use the bus stop method to divide by 1 digit. They will begin to multiply numbers by 2 digits and will be able to divide numbers that will have a remainder.
Statistics
Children will be able to: interpret charts (comparing data and working out the sum and difference from the data), read and interpret line graphs, read and discover data from tables and be able to understand data given to them from timetables.
