Our first text this term is 'The Lost Happy Endings' by Carol Ann Duffy and Jane Ray. Our main focus is to explore vocabulary choices to convey emotion and set the tone for the story. We will explore how authors use language within their stories to impact the reader, before selecting appropriate verbs, adjectives and prepositions for our own piece of writing. The children will also be exposed to using speech, sentence types and construction and use of show not tell.
In English, we have been exploring the poem 'The Jabberwocky' by Lewis Carroll. We have analysed the poem to find descriptive language to describe the Jabberwocky within the poem. The children were then tasked with creating their own version of a Jabberwocky - we had some very creative and innovative ideas.
