Phased Re-opening of our School

 

As you are aware it has been a very busy few weeks since the Prime Minister’s speech on the evening of Sunday 10th May requiring schools to open in a phased return from June 1st.

 

Following this rapidly changing guidance from the government, we have now been asked to commence the process of reopening with the younger children and Year 6. Having carefully considered how we can do this safely and effectively, we have put together a recovery plan.

 

Monday June 1st: School will only be open to our vulnerable and key worker children that have booked their place.

Tuesday June 2nd: School will open to the vulnerable & key worker children and some Nursery children ( 3 and 4 year olds) .

 

Monday June 8th: School will be open to the vulnerable & key worker children, some Nursery children and some Year 6 children.

 

Monday June 15th: School will be open to the vulnerable & key worker children, some Nursery children, some year 6 and some Reception/Year 1 children.

These plans are subject to change. We will keep you informed by text and on the website should there be any changes.

CORONA VIRUS

 

The current situation with Corona Virus (Covid 19) is unprecedented. We would like to reassure you that we always take the welfare and safety of our children, staff and school community seriously.  We are following the Department for Education and Government guidelines with regards to ensuring that school can remain open. In addition to this, we receive daily updates from Worcestershire County Council. We are  working closely with local schools to ensure consistency of approach in Malvern.

 

This page will be updated by Heads on a regular basis to ensure that all the information we have is shared. The Heads and Office Administrator will use the text service to communicate with parents and families where necessary.

Children can communicate with their class teacher using their Purple Mash log in.

Free School Meals

 

Aldi has now joined the list of supermarkets who can accept the national scheme gift cards - parents will be able to order Aldi vouchers from the week commencing 27 April.

 

Currently only ASDA and Waitrose accept the vouchers online.

Supporting your children's education during coronavirus (COVID-19)

 

New guidance published on 19th April 2020 provides information and support for parents and carers of children who are learning at home. The guidance provides links to specific advice for children aged 2-4, at primary school, and with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Parents of secondary school children should contact their school for guidance until additional advice will be made available for them. It links to online educational resources and staying safe online, and provides links to mental health resources on how to support your children’s wellbeing and to help you look after your own mental health.

Worcestershire Here2Help - information for families

 
Here2Help is a countywide campaign and community response to provide help and support to vulnerable people and families affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.  It is led and coordinated by Worcestershire County Council, supported by a growing network of individuals, groups and organisations across the county. 
 
It was launched at the start of the pandemic, initially to help vulnerable households who may be self-isolating to access food and medicine – particularly where they don’t have available family, friends and neighbours to support them.  Increasingly the campaign is also responding to the secondary impact of the pandemic, which in the context of children, young people and families includes issues where: 
 

  • The financial situation in a household has changed and parents are struggling to be able to feed their family;
  • Parents might be struggling to cope without their usual support networks, to help look after children and keep them entertained (particularly where there may have already been challenging behaviour);
  • The isolation and loneliness, accompanied by other issues, are bringing increasing stress and anxiety for children, young people and parents. 

 

How does it work? 
 
Here2Help is about making sure that anyone who is vulnerable during this pandemic is able access the help and support they need to prevent them from getting into crisis.  There are three ways this is being done: 
 
1. Providing information, advice and resources to enable self-help wherever possible.  On the Here2Help website (http://www.worcestershire.gov.uk/here2help) there are a growing number of resources to help families entertain and educate their children, support their mental health, maintain their wellbeing at home, for instance. 
 
2. People can request help by completing the short on-line form on the website or via a dedicated phone number, 01905 768053, which is open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week.  As of 15th April, there had been 1,312 “requests for help” received by Here2Help.  Each request which is received is picked up by a WCC or WCF member of staff who then works with the person requesting help to match them to the appropriate information and support.  This might be related to access to food and medicine, help and support with childcare and looking after children, community help with money and wellbeing, for instance. 
 
3. People, groups and organisations can also offer help by completing a short on-line form on the website.  As of 15th April, there had been 1,359 “offers of help”, which are being matched to the requests for help the campaign is receiving.

Helping Children with Autism Podcast

  
The Association for Child and Adolescent Mental Health have produced a special edition of their podcast about helping children with autism during the coronavirus pandemic. 
 
In this podcast they discuss issues that may arise for autistic children including the disruption of closing schools, anxiety and obsessive behaviours. They focus on practical tips like how to help manage anxiety, maintain structure and support and explain the situation to young people. Additionally, tips on how to keep well as a parent and reliable sources for coronavirus updates.

Introducing the new Starting Well Partnership in Worcestershire

 

Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, Action for Children, Barnardo’s and Redditch Borough Council are delighted to formally launch the new Starting Well Partnership today (April 1st 2020).

 

The partnership will enhance the support available to children, young people and families across the county, providing help during antenatal, post birth, and early years stages, and right throughout school life. Due to the current Coronavirus epidemic, the service will not be fully operational at this time, but will include Family Hubs in each of our local districts, and will offer family and parenting groups supporting all aspects of physical and mental wellbeing for children, young people and their families. We will also work really closely with schools and other community groups supporting young people and parents.

 

The new offer includes a new Starting Well website which we are pleased to say is now live. It will be developed more over the coming months, but initially includes lots if information to support families during the current challenges as a result of Covid-19. There are also links to wider information on a range of issues, from infant feeding through to supporting a young person’s mental wellbeing.

UPDATE 26.03.2020

 

Malvern Hills District Council have reported that large groups of young people have been meeting in local parks, in spite of Government instruction to stay at home.

COVID-19 could be on the play equipment, gates and other surfaces in the park. In order for the spread of this virus to be stopped as soon as possible, we urge that our families stay at home. The District Council would like to make everybody aware that they will take a zero tolerance approach to abuse towards their health workers, police and other staff. We are sure that our School Community will support them in this.

Support with Mental Health and Well-being

 

The unprecedented outbreak of COVID-19 is very likely to have a significant impact upon the emotional well-being of people around the world. It is a distressing, confusing and worrying time for adults for multiple reasons and it is likely that many children are experiencing high levels of anxiety. This may be exacerbated by finding it hard to fully comprehend what is happening, or difficulties expressing their emotions verbally, for example.

 

In response to this Worcestershire Children First have compiled a range of resources designed to help children and young people understand the situation better and to support adults in having these conversations.

New Guidance For Households with Symptons of COVID 19

 

Yesterday, the Government introduced new guidance on whole household isolation in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak:

·         if you live with others and you or another member of the household have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill. It is likely that people living within a household will infect each other or be infected already. Staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community

 

The symptoms are:

·         A high temperature (37.8 degrees and above)

·         A new, continuous cough

Schools, Colleges and Early Years Settings to close - update

 

Yesterday Gavin Williamson, the Secretary of State for Education, announced that as part of the country’s ongoing response to COVID-19, schools, colleges and early years settings have been asked to close to everyone except children of key workers and vulnerable children from Monday 23 March.

A full list of key worker categories will be published by the Cabinet Office later today. We will share this with you once this information is made available.

 

The Department is working through the policy implications of this announcement and, over the coming days, will be sharing with you the further information that you need.

 

Update on assessments and examinations 

It is confirmed that we will not go ahead with assessments or exams, and that we will not be publishing performance tables for this academic year. Teacher assessment levels will be accepted for children who were due to sit formal exams in the Summer Term.

As always, we will work as closely as we can with the local high schools to ensure that the transition to high school is as smooth and as successful as possible for our children.
